Christine is Featured in In Her Own Words
Truly an honour to be part of an inspirational book of women's wisdom to move from surviving to thriving, by Author Alison Braithwaite "In Her Own Words" where I am featured in a chapter "Writing Yourself into Being". Each chapter evokes you to explore and empower yourself through various coaching questions. An amazing inspirational read!!

 An honour to be recognized as a finalist for the 2019 Women In Business Award - Community Impact Category.

Distinguished Alumni of the Year 2017!
Dernederlanden, a graduate of Denis Morris Catholic High School in St. Catharines, said the award was an honour for her because she was told she couldn’t attend Denis Morris. Dernederlanden was in a special learning disabilities class in Grade 8, and teachers didn’t think she would be able to handle the workload the high school. With her mother’s support, she was allowed to attend the high school.
“They gave me a try, and I graduated with a scholarship in home economics and I achieved the highest marks ...,” she said, with a smile.
Since graduating from high school, Dernederlanden became an author and now works with people who have suffered a trauma. She created a number of programs, including Helping Understand Grief Sessions (HUGS), which helps students who are affected by grief.
Dernederlanden also wrote Where is Robert?, a book designed to help children process grief.
The book, along with additional tools, helped more than 6,000 children after the 9/11 attack in New York City.
She said being chosen for the award is a “huge honour” because she wasn’t the top of her class academically. She said anyone who has been told no, or feels as though they aren’t smart enough, should keep working hard and never give up.

Christine Dernederlanden C.T.S.S., Elizabeth Hall, terrorist attack, victims, world trade centre, the September 11th terror attacks devastated countless families. Many parents lost children, and many children lost parents. Elizabeth Hall met with one St. Catharines woman who helped the other victims of 9/11, the people left behind.
